FAQ on Donating in Kind

Q. Does Donateinkind pick up or receive the used goods being donated?

A. Donateinkind does not take goods being donated. We have developed a platform and network of NGOs and organisations who receive donated goods directly and in turn distribute the same to the needy. Donateinkind co-ordinates and facilitates this process.

Q. Any specific recommendation about various used items to be donated?

A. Clothes should be washed and preferably ironed. Toys have to be clean and mechanical toys must be running. Books and textbooks must be intact with all pages and without much underlining or writing on pages. Bicycles have to be in running condition. Desktop and laptop computers preferably be working but even otherwise, donation may be made of non-working computers. Only new sanitary pads are acceptable.  Hair has to be of minimum length as per guidelines specified.

Q. Used products in any condition can be donated?

A. Please note that the motto is ‘items that are usable’. That means that the items should be in reasonably good condition.

Q. I do not have used items, can I donate unused new goods?

A. Of course, you are more than welcome to do so. The receiver will be able to use the items for longer time.

Q. Is there any doorstep pickup available or I need to deliver?

A. This depends on the policies of NGOs or organizations. Some offer pickup facility if the distance from your location to their location is not much. Others expect you to deliver to their place. Some have drop-off points where goods may be dropped off. We strongly urge donors to phone up the organization to obtain clarity on delivery aspect.

Q. I want to donate old items but I do not find my city/town listed.

A. Donateinkind makes efforts to locate NGOs in every city/town, but is unable to find operating organisations for all kinds of products in all cities or towns. In such a case do not hesitate to send a message to us so that we can find a solution.

Q. Can I contact the listed organisations on weekends and holidays?

A. Since the organisation’s office may be closed on weekends and holidays, it is preferable that the intending donor gets in touch with them on weekdays during working hours of 10 am to 5 pm.

Q. I find that listed NGO’s phone number or website to be non-functional.

A. Despite our best efforts to maintain an up-to-date database, you will find that a few phone numbers or website URLs are non-functional. In such cases, please send us a message and we shall revert to you quickly.

Q. How do I know that the donated goods reach the needy?

A. The listed NGOs and organisations are engaged in selfless non-profit work to serve the underprivileged and needy. However, donor can always satisfy himself/herself by enquiring with the NGO / organisation or by visiting their website.
